Easton Arts Council Invitational Art Exhibit Coming Soon

We're entering a lovely paper abstract in the upcoming Invitational Art Exhibition planned by the Easton Arts Council May 16 to June 4 at the Easton Library.

Dance of the Falls, paper abstract/woven painting

Dance of the Falls is a classic example of my mother's lovely and colorful woven paintings. The artist Paula Renee developed this novel technique to merge her two passions -- painting and weaving -- by carefully cutting or tearing her paintings into vertical strips and then weaving them back together on the loom, creating a unique three-dimensional effect.

The arts council's 20th anniversary celebration will take place in the library's community room with an opening reception on Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

See you there!

A Fine Time for Some Fine Art

This past Saturday marked the opening day of the Richter Arts Association Members' Show. This year's show was dedicated to the memory of my mother, Paula Renee, and I was so pleased the wonderful ladies at Richter gave me the opportunity to keep mom's spirit alive.

In the lobby, visitors can see two of my mom's works:
  • Sailing, a woven tapestry, and
  • Spring at Last, a delightfully abstract bird cage that makes use of tissue paper, fiber and a few recycled materials, which my mother was so fond of doing. It is similar in style to the one you see below on the right, though it has more subtle colors.

In addition to my mother's work, there was a diverse group of watercolors, acrylics, oil paintings, graphite on paper and pen and ink, plus some great refreshments. I couldn't resist purchasing two sweet photographs of some shorebirds in beachy-looking frames. Thank you, Katherine Beattie!

I hope you can catch the show before it ends May 15. The Richter Center is on Aunt Hack Road, next to the golf course.

Spring is in the Air

The Richter Association for the Arts wrapped up its spring "Hearts and Flowers" show in Danbury recently, and like so many of our ephemeral spring flowering bulbs, the exhibit made a brief, two-week appearance and then disappeared too quickly. I hope you made it over there in time to catch it, where you would have seen these two little beauties on exhibit.

Paula Renee's New Solo Exhbition at the Avance Day Spa

Inner Source, from the Cosmic series, oil on canvas, 14 x 11", $300

We're excited to announce a new solo exhibition of Paula Renee's work at the Avance Day Spa Gallery in Newtown, Connecticut.

This 31-piece show, which runs through October 31, showcases an eclectic selection of oil on canvas, Paula's unique "woven paintings," multi-media and beautiful woven tapestries. The show was thoughtfully curated by Newtown resident Rosemary Rau to complement and enhance the restorative experience of spa clientele in a peaceful and relaxing environment.

From a whimsical group of hot air balloons gently floating above a mountain lake to a pair of woven waterfall paintings, Paula's work exudes a playful and contemplative approach reflecting an appreciation for the natural world around us.  Whether you define relaxation as a view of palm trees on a tropical beach, a distant sailboat plying the ocean waves or simply considering the infinite mystery of the origins of the universe, you'll find all these subjects interpreted in novel ways in Paula's work.

You can stop in to view the show during the following hours:

Tuesday 11 AM - 8 PM
Wednesday 10 AM – 6 PM
Thursday 11 AM – 8 PM
Friday 9 AM – 6 PM
Saturday 9 AM – 5 PM

Come Fly Away With Me, 18 x 22", $350

The gallery and spa is located at 228 South Main Street in Newtown. And while you're there, why not consider treating yourself to a therapeutic massage or a European facial?
